Course Conducted

The Department of Periodontology at the K.L.E.S’ Institute of dental Sciences, Belgaum offers Undergraduates and Postgraduate programme a three-year postgraduate program leading to a Master of Dental Surgery degree awarded by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. The advanced training program in Periodontics is approved and accredited by the Dental Council of India.

2) 7th Scientific Society Convention held on Feb 2003 at KLES Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum.

3) 3rd National Postgraduate Workshop held on July 2003 by Indian Society of Periodontology at KLES Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum.

4) Oral Hygiene Day is celebrated on Ist August of every year in our department where free check up and treatment will be carried out and all patients will be motivated and educated regarding the importance of oral hygiene and  self explanatory pamplets about oral hygiene in the language of marathi, kannada, and english, will be distributed to the patients.

FACILITIES AVAILABLE IN THE DEPARTMENT:

Department of Periodontics, KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum provides all the necessary care and facilities to all the patients who attend the outpatient department. Facilities provided include: 

1.      A prompt diagnosis of the ailment which includes case history, examination and diagnosis.

2.      We give a special emphasis on the chief complaint of the patient without neglecting the other problems.

3.      A proper treatment protocol is followed which starts with phase I therapy that includes scaling and root planning

4.      Problems like food lodgement or impaction are further solved by debridement, irrigation and curettage

5.      Perio-esthetic procedures such as gingival depigmentation, frenectomy, gingivectomy, gingivoplasty, crown lengthening, vestibuloplasty and various mucogingival surgeries are performed

6.      Major surgical procedures for problems like periodontal pockets are also done, such techniques include various flap surgeries

7.      Specialized surgical therapies like free gingival graft, lateral pedicle graft, etc are also performed

8.      Regenerative surgeries such as various bone grafts and guided tissue regeneration are also done successfully in the department

9.      Along with the treatment a proper follow up is done for assessment. We motivate the patient for maintenance of good oral hygiene by explaining various tooth brushing techniques

10.  Prognosis of the concerned tooth or overall dentition is assessed.
