SERVICES OFFERED AND SPECIAL FACILITIES
The Department of Oral Pathology since inception has had full-fledged, teaching staff for under- graduate and post-graduate teaching. The department is currently involved in teaching 100 students each at IInd and IIIrd B.D.S. and 4 post-graduates each year.

The well planned post-graduate teaching programme and the rapport shared between the post-graduates and the department staff is evident from the excellent performance of the post-graduates involving participation and best paper/poster awards at National level conference and State level conference and workshops for the past 12 years.

The department has been constantly upgrading the equipments and is currently   equipped with,

  1. Olympus research microscope with CCTV attachment.
  2. LCD and teaching aid for slide discussions
  3. Olympus digital camera: can be attached to any microscope
  4. Semi-automatic microtome.
  5. Stereomicroscope.
  6. Colorimeter.
  7. Multi-viewing Microscope (Olympus)
  8. Research Microscope (Lieca) attached to camera and computer
    1. Polarizing, phase contrast, dark field, immunofluoresence.

Department has research and development unit to keep in pace with changes and   advancement in the field of oral sciences

  1. Staff and PG’s have taken up various research projects
  2. Immunohistochemistry staining has been started in the department
  3. Various special staining techniques are done on routine basis
  4. Department is rich with more than 10,000 slides registry

ACHIEVEMENTS :

  1. IV National Conference of IAOP [Indian Association of OralPathologists] was organised in 1995 with Dr.Alka Kale as the organising chairperson and Dr.Ramakant Nayak as the organising secretary.
  2. Ist National Conference of ‘Triple O’ [Oral Medicine, oral Pathology And Oral   Surgery] was organised in the Institute in the year 1998 with Dr.Alka Kale as the organising secretary and Dr.Ramakant Nayak as the joint secretary.
  3. 29th Karnataka State Dental Conference was organised in Nov.2000   with Dr.Ramakant    Nayak as the organising secretary and Dr.Alka Kale as Chairman scientific committee and Dr.S.S.Bhalerao, Chairman Transport and Accommodation.
  4. 1st Alumni meet on 11th & 12th June 2004. Scientific programme included guest lecture by Dr Hazaray Principal & Dean GDC Nagpur on following topics:Epithelial dysplasia, Salivary gland tumour & odontogenic tumors
  5. Organised CDE on Human Genome by Dr. Vivek  Pakhmode, Pune
  6. Guest lecture by Dr Praveen Post Doctoral Fellow, NIH, Maryland US, ex PG of the department on 3rd Dec 2004 on the topics: Scope of Dentists in research abroad, Molecular aspects of wound healing
  7. Guest lecture followed by hands on demonstration on FNAC by Dr P V Patil was organized during PG exchange programme
  8. Collaboration With Extra-Mural Organizations / Institutions.
  9. There are yearly exchange programmes of postgraduate students with other institutions of the country.
  10. VI National PG convention was organized  on 11th and 12th Aug 2006 with Dr .Alka Kale as chairman and Dr. Seema Hallikerimath as Organising secretory.
  11. 2nd Alumini meet of the department was organized on 12 th Aug 2006

PROPOSED FUTURE PLANS

  • Setting up research and development lab
  • Setting up of a full-fledged microbiology department to be self-sufficient in this field in carrying out the various research activities in this field.
  • Setting up of Forensic Odontology department
  • Departmental museum
  • To organize National conference of IAOMP after 2010
