INTRODUCTION
:
The specialty of Oral Pathology and Microbiology deals
with basic knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Histology,
Embryology, Pathology and Microbiology and structures
and tissues related to the paraoral and oral areas. This
is a versatile subject and deals with undergraduates of
II year BDS and III year BDS with two separate
University Examinations.
Specialization in this field is three-year course
awarding Masters Degree. Being an academic subject it
has a great potential to leap into research. Besides
research, masters in this subject can excel in private
practice. Direct enrollment to Ph.D. programme can also
be done.
Department of Oral Pathology started in the year 1986
under the able Guidance and Leadership of Dr. H. M.
Dholakia, the first recognized teacher of Oral Pathology
in India. The postgraduate course started in 1990. A
total of 51 students have successfully completed
postgraduation to date (2008).
The department is well equipped with latest laboratory
technology, departmental library, histopathology slide
registry of more than 15000 and faculty who are
interested, disciplined and enthusiastic. Department has
hosted two National Level Conferences, one state level
IDA conference, one National Level Postgraduate
Convention and one National Level Workshop on Education
in Oral Pathology.
The department has a well equipped
histopathology laboratory, which has the facility for
tissue processing procedures and special staining
techniques. An array of modern equipments like
semiautomatic microtome, research microscope, image
analysis software which aid in accurate diagnosis of
oral diseases. |
