- INTRODUCTION -

Primarily a research-oriented department that imparts quality training to undergraduates and postgraduates. Besides conducting all routine blood and urine analysis and histopathological examination, the department is actively involved in various research projects on HIV-AIDS, laser-induced wound healing, karyotyping, molecular studies using PCR, cancer research using the latest Immuno-Histochemical methods and various microbiological aspects of oral infections.

HISTORY: 

The high level of training given to postgraduates by the experienced staff has resulted in numerous accolades being won by them at various national specialty conferences. Keeping the motto “We care for you” in mind, the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry was established at the KLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences in 1985, with the new wing being inaugurated on 17th March 2012, by the then Honorable Health Minister of India, Dr. GhulamNabi Azad. Undergraduate course was started in the year 1985, while a postgraduate course in 1992, with an intake of two postgraduate students every year. Ph.D. courses started in the year 2007. The Department is well spaced, attractive, well equipped keeping in mind the needs of the children including waiting area consisting of an aquarium, toys, television, etc. facilities, separate OPD, Counselling & Isolation rooms, clinical areas for Undergraduate & Postgraduate students. Well trained and experienced faculty dedicated to providing a fertile ground for teaching and learning. Our department has collaborated with Hemophiliac and diabetic society of KLES’ Dr. PrabhakarKore Hospital and medical research Centre, Belgaum, to provide care for special children.

- AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT -

AIM:

To establish a Department par excellence to provide comprehensive and preventive oral health Care needs for children, with special emphasis for treating differently abled children.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To provide every child the fundamental right to his or her total oral health care.
  • To practice Pedodontics, we follow a simple philosophy: “Treat the patient not the tooth”.
  • To provide comprehensive oral health care for the children along with specially-abled children so as to reduce dental diseases.
  • To encourage and train the students to take up research activities to improve the oral health of the children.
