PREAMBLE :
This modular program will provide the student an in-depth experience with the gamut of esthetic and reconstructive surgeries. The course will highlight the use of a variety of osseous grafts and soft tissue grafts for predictable coverage of lost periodontal tissues due to disease processes.
OBJECTIVES :
- Training program provides an opportunity to achieve knowledge on a contemporary, evidence-based and practical advanced dental education on hard and soft tissue reconstructive surgeries.
- Over the shoulder training to master advanced esthetic techniques using a variety of grafting materials.
- Practical treatment planning of complex periodontal cases.
- Provide adequate knowledge and understanding of applied basic and systemic medical science knowledge in Periodontics and in particular to head and neck.
DURATION OF COURSE : 6 months with 6 modules every month for 2 days.
ELIGIBILITY
B.D.S. degree recognized by DCI.
M.D.S. degree recognized by DCI.
Private practitioners with B.D.S. / M.D.S. degree.

MODULE - I

Scope and evaluation of esthetic and reconstructive periodontal
surgical procedure : Includes definitions, historical
background, indications and therapeutic modalities that
are included under periodontal plastic surgery.
Surgical anatomy of the periodontium and related structures.
Anesthetics and antibiotics.
Sterilization and disinfection.
Introduction to case based
learning.
MODULE II (05/05/2008 to 08/05/2008)
Rationale and periodontal surgical procedure.
General principles.
Diagnosis and treatment planning of muco-gingival
problems.
Radiographic aids.
Periodontal wound healing.
The high frenum problem and its management.
Clinical demonstration : Frenotomy
Frenectomy.
MODULE III
(02/06/2008 to 04/06/2008)
Prosthetic - restorative interrelationship of
periodontal tissues.
Concept of biological width and it's significance.
Clinical demonstration : Crown lengthening procedures.
Gingival pigmentation
Clinical demonstration : Depigmentation procedure.
Esthetic recontouring of gingival tissues :
Gingivoplasty
Gingivectomy
Clinical demonstration : Gingivectomy.

MODULE IV

Root coverage procedures :Diagnosis, case selection
and treatment planning.
Clinical demonstration : Lateral pedicle flap technique.
Free gingival graft technique.
MODULE V (11/08/2008 to

Post - surgical evaluation and long term follow-up.
Interdisciplinary approach in periodontal maintenance.
MODULE VI : Examination Module
(08/09/2008 to 10/09/2008)
Examination shall be held for award of certificate and
shall comprise of theory, practical and viva-voce
examination.
Theory exam : 100 marks
Practical & Viva-voce exam : 100 marks
